Integrating Biophysics into Stem Cell Biology

Integrating Biophysics into Stem Cell Biology

An ISSCR Digital Webinar.

Image: Norden Lab, Lucrezia Ferme and Elisa Nerli

Program Description: The emerging field of stem cell mechanobiology explores how stem cells integrate biochemical and physical cues from their microenvironment to influence cell fate. This program brings together the tissue engineering and the ISSCR communities to highlight the critical role of biophysics in stem cell research. Biologists collaborate with theoreticians to measure biophysical changes using models based on physical and mathematical principles. The webinar presentations are organized in pairs, each featuring a biologist and a theoretician, to emphasize the collaborative nature of these projects. The discussions will span biological scales, from subcellular structures to macroscale tissue organization, illustrating how these factors, along with the biomechanical properties of stem cells and their environment, influence cell fate establishment and regeneration.

The webinar will take place on 14 October 2025 at 11:00 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. EDT
